Charles “Chuck” Vollman was born at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, New York on September 16, 1933. He grew up in Long Beach and Forrest Hills, New York and graduated from the University of Miami in 1951. He had enlisted in the U.S. Army Security Agency in 1952 and was honorably discharged after serving 16 months in the Korean War at the rank of Sergeant.

Chuck married the love of his life, Betty Jean Sussman, in Hollywood, Florida in 1956 and celebrated 52 years of marriage and life together.

Chuck was a member of the Jewish War Veterans Post 613 and served as Junior & Senior Vice Commanders and Editor of the War Veterans Post newsletters. He was also Delegate to the Jewish National Convention in 1956.

He also served with the CIA in Washington, DC, the Panama Canal Zone, Peru, Iran, Cyprus & Greece. In 1964, he resigned from the CIA and was employed for 22 years at Sears Roebuck & Company as Decorating Consultant, Regional & National Trainer, and Sales Manager in South Florida until his retirement with the company in 1991.

He was the Assistant District Commissioner of the Seminole County District and was Cub Scout Master for Pack 124 for 9 years with his sons. He had volunteered his services for many organizations such as the Sears Retirees and Sears Retirees Advisory Council. He was President of Sears Retirees of South Florida for 14 years, President of the Genealogical Society of Broward County and President of the Hollywood Council Civic Association. He was also Co-Founder of the Park East Civic Association. He was a founding member of the Patriotic Group of Hollywood and inducted into the Broward County Historical Commission of Pioneers.

In 2008, Chuck was honored with the Meritorious Service Award by Hollywood, Florida’s Mayor (Peter Bober), the City Commissioners and Chief of the Hollywood Fire Department (Virgil Fernandez) for his services in the Citizens Emergency Response Team, In Chuck’s honor, the City of Hollywood’s Mayor and Commissioners will award the “Charles F. Vollman Certificate of Appreciation” to other outstanding citizens annually in May.

Chuck is survived by his wife; Betty, his children; Matthew Vollman, Marc Vollman, Pamela (and Samuel) Burgio, Gregg (& Moon) Vollman and Francisco Ortiz. His grandchildren; Kelli, Vijay & Grace Vollman, Christian & Farah Ortiz. And his great-grandchild; Alyia Ortiz. He is also survived by his sister; Rhoda Kestenbaum.

Chuck had a passion for maintaining relationships with local neighbors and government officials alike. He believed in building a strong society where his dedication and integrity ensured that all measures carried out in the name of the community was executed by local neighbors & government officials with honor and accepted by all with satisfaction. Chuck will be deeply missed by all.
